Welcome to Journalism!
What is Journalism?
In Journalism, students will work together to create a school-wide newspaper/newsletter. Students will learn to write like a journalist, become equipped with the tools needed to design newspapers, and practice journalistic techniques such as interviewing, note-taking, and headlining stories. Our class will have the opportunity to work with the yearbook staff by reporting on the major school events. The class will be split into two major sections. During the first part of the term, students will learn and practice concise, correct, and compelling writing. Students will peer edit and begin to cover school events. During the rest of the term, students will focus on laying out the newspaper, gathering and editing pictures, and creating a unified, aesthetically pleasing product. Participating in this class will give students a look at how a real newspaper staff is organized and functions.
